A Lake Erie fishing adventure, fishing for Walleye, Smallmouth Bass
THE MOST THRILLING FISH TO CATCH ON THE LAKE
|
|
When you think of Lake Erie you think of walleye. But the real king of the western basin is the same fish they named
the Islands after, Smallmouth Bass. Smallmouth action begins as water temperatures climb above 40 F (april). The
fish will move up the reefs adjacent to spawnings areas. Spawning begins when water temperature reachs 55 F (june). After
spawning as the water warms up bass scatter into deeper water . In fall as the waters cool, bass will again move up and concentrate
on the reefs to feed heavely for winter. The fishing around the Bass Islands and reefs on the Ohio side of the lake is
excellent. The fishing around Pelee Island on the Canadian side is OUTSTANDING. Bass average 2 to 3 pounds, 4 and 5 pounders
are common with 6 pound plus always possible.
